Kanye West Is A Jackass

It's Saturday night and that means KAGE on KRUI 89.7 FM! Tune in or stream it live here. Haven't blogged for awhile, but made a new minimix for your listening pleasure entitled Obama, featuring the Prez... download it here.

KAGE will be mixing live in Iowa City at the Picador upstairs with DJ Tutt, Lady Espina, and DJ Miche this Thursday 10/24/09. All proceeds go to the library at the Mitcheville, Iowa womens correctional institution, so bring a book and dance! I will be back at Yacht Club in two weeks and will be mixing at the Industry in Iowa City in early December. I'll also be mixing new year's night at Quinton's bar in Iowa City. Haven't mixed there yet, but it should be a great time!

Off Hiatus

TIME

The time moves slower on finals week. Sick and tired of making playlists so I decided to record yet another set this week. TIME's first track is Apollo, We Are Happy Plants' newest single. It features a great quote from the movie The Man From Earth, which I would definitely recommend watching...or just listening to-besides the dialogue, the movie is incredibly boring.

This Friday I'll be mixing at Brock's house party, so if you're in the Iowa City area you should play me in some beirut. Also, in 2 weeks I will be mixing with DJ CJ at Yacht Club on the 26th of May. DJ CJ is superbad (in a good way), and opened recently at the Summit for Steve Aoki, so don't miss out!

EPIC

What up the internet, finals week is being a bitch so I decided to procrastinate just a bit more and recorded a 32 minute live mix...and it's EPIC!! I've been listening to this EASTAR remix of Daft Punk's Something About Us on repeat for a week straight, and there are some other recently discovered tracks that make the dynamite go BOOM as well, so be sure to check it out here.

Some more good news from KRUI 89.7 just came in to my e-mail the other day... the Summer schedule just got released and they gave me a spot on Saturday from 6-8PM. Lesson 2

Lesson 1

Last night Steve Aoki played downtown at the Summit - holy shit!! Laying down some solid tracks as well as giving us a taste of his new work, I remember even hearing a head banger track from his new band with the dudes from Bloody Beetroots.

After I got home I was so pumped I decided I to record a live set. It's almost an hour long, got some chill, a lot of intense. New Justice, Breakbot, Daft Punk, Calvin Harris, Aoki, and dubstep.

Daft Punk 2009

The question everyone is asking is when is Daft Punk going to DO something? The mysterious robot duo has gone on a temporary hiatus after their 2007 alive tour, which Kanye said on his interview with Letterman was one of the best shows he's ever seen. (not that anyone gives a shit about what Kanye thinks)

The new TR2N trailer, which is scheduled for release in 2011 just got into movie theatres, there are cam versions on it floating around the web, but DAMN! It's just beautiful, and what's even better is this: Walt Disney recently announced that DAFT PUNK is doing the original soundtrack!! It will be their next original release since Human After All in 2005. They have made a statement saying to expect a world tour in 2010/2011.

DEADMAU5 & CROOKERS!!

HOLY SHIT! We got to Congress Theatre in time to hear the end of the Whip's set, rocked out to Late Of The Pier, but the rave really started when Crookers took over the stage. They instantly had the crowd of 4000+ people going insane with a flawless set full of tight buildups and heavy breakdowns. Deadmau5 closed up the night with his signature mickey mouse head, but by the time it hit about 2 AM I think most of the people there were too tired to rage as the crowd seemed to die down a bit...and let us not forget Deadmau5's sexy encore featuring Arguru and 3 almost naked women who could have easily been robots dancing on stage. I got some good video footage of a lot of the show and expect it uploaded soon.

This Tuesday I will be mixing at the Yacht Club Stoplight Party (red=taken, yellow=maybe? green=single!) and will be laying down a lot of Deadmau5 and Crookers in commemoration of the best rave I've ever been to--other than Daft Punk. ELECTROCITY will be opening the night with a special chill set, and then I'll be taking over the decks until 2 AM.

Okay I'm back everybody, very sorry about the long delay but have been busy with school and attempting to find a job and research studies. So I saw Hood Internet at the Yacht Club last night and they had the dance floor shaking, and I want to remind everyone that I will be mixing there for Tuesday night dance party April 7th with DJ Duo Electrocity, as well as the following Tuesday April 14th. Kage and Electrocity also have a combo dance party show at the Picador Thursday April 23rd, raging remixes all night!

Dr. Manhattan Will Own Your Sh!t

I hope everyone has gone and seen the Watchmen movie. I saw the midnight showing and made it through the hot sweaty 3 hours without passing out, unlike the guy I was sitting next to who was out cold an hour in, occasionally waking for the explosions/extreme sex scenes. I have to admit that at times I thought the movie moved too slowly, but it was partly due to the fact that I knew what was going to be said. Either way, watching New York get nuked was epic.

Disco Villains

I just finished recording this set for the radio tonight on KRUI 89.7 FM, and wanted to recognize one of my favorite remix artists Disco Villains, with four of their killer tracks in the mix. Their remix of Whatchadoin' with Santogold, M.I.A., Spank Rock and N.A.S.A. is totally bomb internet sensation and available for download over at Sundtrak. New Set, New Remix

My friends from Barrington formed a new band recently that's been receiving quite a bit of positive attention. Mike Sanfillippo, the lead singer, recently made it to the top 50 round on American Idol, and the band has been featured on the NY Times as well as The Next Big Sound. Mike recently asked me if I could try remixing one of their tracks, Saving Seconds. I'm not fully satisfied with my remix yet, but you can hear it in the set I posted today at about 13 minutes in. Their band is Bright Like Japan and I would recommend checking out their Myspace.

Recorded a new live set earlier today with a lot of new tracks I've had stuck on repeat. I'm currently in love with Yuksek, especially the track Extraball on their first album, Away From The Sea, released February 2nd. I'd definitely check out the album as it features other great artists like Chromeo and Sh!t Disco. You'll hear Extraball, Saving Seconds, and many other new tracks in my latest live set, 2-26-09

Legalization Legislation!

Assemblyman Tom Ammiano of California will announce legislation on Monday to legalize marijuana and earn perhaps $1 billion annually by taxing it. Ammiano's proposed bill "would remove all penalties in California law on cultivation, transportation, sale, purchase, possession, or use of marijuana, natural THC, or paraphernalia for persons over the age of 21." That would bring in roughly $1 billion for the state, according to estimates made by marijuana advocacy organizations. source

I can imagine the second gold nugget rush now...I would definitely make the road trip.

Kage's music blog is officially up and running, w00t!1

Now that I landed a spot on KRUI Radio [kruiradio.org] I decided to create this primarily for posting set lists of my live show that you can listen to on 89.7 FM from 2-4 AM on Sundays.

I will also be posting new live sets, remixes, and mash-ups as I create them for free download here, so be sure to click "follow this blog" on the right side of this page. Currently, there are 5 live sets available for download: 2009, 2010, Thanksgiving, Warm-up, and Fifth, as well as 5 remixes.
